CD Projekt Red recently confirmed exciting new details about The Witcher 4, including fresh locations and creatures, in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Following The Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris on December 14th, 2024. They revealed that The Witcher 4 will feature entirely new regions and a host of never-before-seen monsters.
Ciri's journey will take players to unexplored corners of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the trailer as Stromford, a place where villagers engage in unsettling rituals, sacrificing young girls to appease their deity.
This "god," according to Kalemba, is a monster named Bauk, inspired by Serbian mythology. He described Bauk as a "tricky bastard" that instills genuine fear in its victims. And Bauk isn't alone; players can expect to encounter "plenty of new monsters" throughout the game.
While eager to discuss these new elements, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a completely fresh experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15th, 2024, confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be roughly comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's known territories.
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC design. Parris noted the increased diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer compared to the reused models in The Witcher 3. Kalemba confirmed that CD Projekt Red is striving to give "every single NPC" a unique life and backstory, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit nature of a village like Stromford will be reflected in these interactions.
Further improvements include enhanced character models, with attention paid to visual fidelity, behavior, and facial expressions. Kalemba emphasized the goal of creating an even more immersive experience than previous titles.
While details remain scarce, these revelations promise significantly improved NPC interactions and a more believable, immersive world. For more on The Witcher 4, be sure to check out our dedicated article!
