Twenty years after the original Ōkami's release, Amaterasu, the sun goddess and source of all goodness, makes a surprising return in a highly anticipated sequel. Revealed at The Game Awards, this new Ōkami is under development, helmed by Hideki Kamiya, who, having left PlatinumGames, founded Clovers studio. Capcom, the IP owner, is publishing, with support from Machine Head Works, a studio comprised of Capcom veterans. The team boasts a stellar lineup of both new and original Ōkami developers.
While initial details were scarce—beyond an emotional teaser and the team's names—IGN recently interviewed Kamiya, Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, and Machine Head Works producer Kiyohiko Sakata in Osaka, Japan. This two-hour discussion covered the sequel's development, the team's collaboration, and their respective studios.
IGN's Q&A:
IGN: Kamiya-san, you've discussed your departure from PlatinumGames, citing a difference in development philosophies. What are your core beliefs, and how will they shape Clovers?

IGN: Capcom's heavy involvement?
Hirabayashi: Capcom always wanted an Ōkami sequel, and Kamiya's departure created the opportunity to begin discussions.
