Limited Run Games has requested Nintendo to temporarily suspend sales of the Gex Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop until clarity emerges regarding a pending compatibility patch.

In a social media announcement, Limited Run cited unexpected delays in patch approval—attributed to the recent U.S. public holiday—as the reason for withholding the update this week. Consequently, the publisher opted to have Nintendo remove the game from the storefront.

The company acknowledged recurring Switch 2 backward compatibility challenges with several originally Switch 1 titles. While a recent firmware update resolved most issues, the Gex Trilogy remained problematic. Limited Run developed a corrective patch but awaits Nintendo's approval for distribution.

"Without a definitive timeline for Nintendo's firmware fix, we submitted our own patch," Limited Run stated. "The Juneteenth holiday delayed approval, but we anticipate releasing it early next week."

"Meanwhile, we've requested Nintendo temporarily delist the game from the Switch 2 eShop. We appreciate players' patience during this resolution process."

The publisher encouraged players to verify compatibility statuses for its other titles, listing the following:

Clock Tower: Rewind
Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection
Tomba! Special Edition
River City Girls Zero
A Boy and His Blob Collection
Rocket Knight Adventures
Shantae
Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection
Xtreme Sports
Trip World DX
Felix the Cat
Rendering Ranger R-2: Rewind

The Gex Trilogy bundles all three platforming adventures featuring the sarcastic gecko protagonist—Gex (1995), Gex: Enter the Gecko (1998), and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko (1999). Initially developed for 3DO before porting to PlayStation, Saturn, and PC, the remastered collection launched June 16 for modern platforms including PS5, Xbox Series, and both Switch generations.

While the Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units successfully, third-party game performance during launch week presents varied results compared to Nintendo's first-party titles.
