Microsoft has unveiled the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, marking the first-ever limited edition variant of the popular VR headset.

Although Microsoft has yet to launch its own virtual reality device, it continues to deepen its collaboration with Meta to enhance the Xbox cloud gaming experience on the Quest platform.

As shared in an official post on Xbox Wire by Lori Wright, Corporate Vice President of Gaming Partnerships and Business Development, the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is “crafted for Xbox fans.” The headset is now available directly from Meta and comes with a price tag of $399.99.

Play**Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition Bundle Includes:** - Custom 128GB Meta Quest 3S finished in Xbox Carbon Black and Velocity Green - Matching Touch Plus controllers - Limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller - Elite Strap - 3 months of Meta Horizon+ - 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

While any Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, or Xbox Adaptive Controller can be paired with the Quest via Bluetooth, the included limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller complements the bundle’s aesthetic design.

The pre-installed Xbox app on the headset grants access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Subscribers can also stream select games they already own—even if not part of the Game Pass Ultimate library—as long as they are supported by the "Stream Your Own Game" feature (currently offering over 100 compatible titles).

The marketing campaign surrounding the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition aligns with Microsoft’s broader “This is an Xbox” branding, reinforcing the message that Xbox gaming isn’t limited to consoles but can be enjoyed on virtually any screen.

The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is currently available at meta.com, Best Buy (USA), Argos (UK), and EE (UK). However, availability is extremely limited—once sold out, there are no plans for restocks. As Microsoft notes, “Once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Despite growing competition, including Sony’s PSVR2 for PlayStation 5, Microsoft has remained cautious about entering the VR space directly. Back in 2019, ahead of the Xbox Series X|S launch, Xbox Chief Phil Spencer stated that VR wasn't a priority due to low consumer demand.

“We’re responding to what our customers are asking for, and nobody’s asking for VR,” Spencer said at the time. “The vast majority of our customers know if they want a VR experience, there’s places to go get those. We see the volumes of those on PC and other places.”

Sony eventually released the PSVR2 for PlayStation 5, though the headset appears to have lost momentum amid shifting market trends.
