While Dynasty Warriors games are known for their hack-and-slash combat, they demand a certain level of skill from players. Acknowledging this, Dynasty Warriors: Origins introduces four different difficulty settings, allowing players to adjust the game's challenge to match their skill level and desired gaming experience. As a reboot, both new and returning players might be curious about the optimal difficulty setting to choose in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The best choice hinges on individual player skill and the level of challenge they seek.

All Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Settings

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four difficulty settings, with three initially available: Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The fourth setting, Ultimate Warrior (very hard), unlocks after players complete one of the main scenarios for any of the three factions. While there's a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific accolades for finishing the main campaign.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

Historian, the easy mode, is perfect for newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those who wish to immerse themselves in the story without much resistance. Wayfarer strikes a balance and is likely the best starting point for most players, even those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Dedicated fans might opt for Hero right away, whereas seasoned Musou game veterans might consider stepping up to Ultimate Warrior once unlocked, to maintain a high level of challenge as they tackle remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.

Players can adjust the difficulty between battles via the config menu if they find the current setting either too demanding or too lenient, without any impact on the story.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

On Historian, all enemy attacks can be blocked, and it's easier to stagger foes, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. In contrast, Hero ramps up the challenge with stronger, more aggressive enemies, narrower windows for parries and perfect evades, and no Meat Buns dropped by enemies. Blocking on Hero depletes bravery, players have less time to sway the tide of battle between allied and enemy forces, and they earn slightly fewer Skill Points and gold. Ultimate Warrior amplifies these changes from Hero, with even tighter windows for parries and evades, and significantly reduced battle earnings.
