Silent Hill f has become the first entry in the series to receive Japan's strictest 18+ rating certification.
As shown in last night's Japanese reveal trailer, Silent Hill f carries an M (Mature) rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and Japan's CERO:Z classification.
While ratings remain provisional during development, Automaton notes this marks a series first - previous Japanese-developed Silent Hill titles (Silent Hill through The Room) all received CERO:C ratings (15+), while international-developed sequels typically ranged between CERO:C and CERO:D (17+).
Interestingly, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake maintains Japan's CERO:C rating despite its mature classification overseas.
Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission offered the deepest look yet at Silent Hill f - marking the franchise's first mainline installment in 13 years.
Originally announced in 2022, this psychological horror transports players to 1960s Japan, following protagonist Shimizu Hinako - a teenager buckling under societal pressures. Series creator Ryukishi07 (When They Cry) pens the narrative.

The trailer showcases Hinako in increasingly disturbing situations - battered, bleeding, her school uniform torn. Though primarily cutscene-driven, we glimpse Silent Hill f's unsettling floral Otherworld (replacing the series' signature rust aesthetic) alongside disturbing creature designs.
Konami hasn't announced a release window yet, nor did they share updates about No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall project.
