The Blood of Dawnwalker's highly anticipated reveal trailer showcased predominantly cinematic scenes with sporadic glimpses of actual gameplay. This promotional material reinforces the game's thematic parallels to The Witcher while introducing innovative Persona-inspired elements.
Developed by Polish studio Rebel Wolves - established by veterans from CD Projekt Red's Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 teams - The Blood of Dawnwalker represents their inaugural project. Originally announced as Dawnwalker in January 2024, the studio described it as a story-rich open-world RPG set in a grim fantasy universe where player choices carry significant weight.
Nearly twelve months to the date of its announcement, Rebel Wolves partnered with publisher Bandai Namco to premiere The Blood of Dawnwalker on January 13. The showcase culminated in an atmospheric cinematic trailer spanning over four minutes, introducing the game world and its enhanced vampires known as Dawnwalkers. Viewers also met Coen, the RPG's protagonist who undergoes transformation into a Dawnwalker early in the narrative.
The Blood of Dawnwalker's grimdark setting, monstrous adversaries, and tagline "the world needs what it fears" immediately recall The Witcher's signature atmosphere. Even without its CDPR lineage, the similarities would be unmistakable - particularly appealing to fans of The Witcher 3's vampiric Blood and Wine expansion. A morality system enables players to determine whether Coen embraces his Dawnwalker powers to rescue his family or struggles to retain his fading humanity.
While sharing core similarities with The Witcher, The Blood of Dawnwalker innovates through its incorporation of Persona-style time management. Every quest consumes in-game time, forcing players to prioritize objectives strategically. "Players face multiple paths to save Coen's family without rigid distinctions between main and side quests," explained Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Rebel Wolves' co-founder and game director. Deliberately designed replayability ensures each playthrough offers unique narrative possibilities through this "narrative sandbox" approach.

Currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, The Blood of Dawnwalker serves as the planned first installment in a trilogy under Bandai Namco's publishing. While lacking a definitive release date, its AAA-scale development begun in 2022 suggests a potential 2027 launch at minimum. Rebel Wolves intends to showcase gameplay footage during summer 2025.
