The fan pointed out that the game's visuals bore a striking resemblance to *Borderlands 3*, raising questions about its originality. They also mentioned potential challenges due to a speculated reduction in the marketing budget. Drawing parallels to the critically panned *Borderlands 2024* movie, which even received criticism from notorious director Uwe Boll, the fan's tweet sparked a significant conversation within the community. Instead of fostering a dialogue, Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox, initially responded by stating he "doesn't want to see this negativity" and planned to block the user to shield himself from unnecessary stress. Later, he revised his approach, choosing to mute notifications from the account instead.

The situation intensified when popular streamer Gothalion stepped in, urging Pitchford to be more receptive to criticism and respectful of the opinions of the franchise's long-time fans. In response, Randy dismissed Gothalion's comment as "toxic pessimism" and not constructive. He further highlighted the intense pressure developers face, stating they are "literally killing themselves to entertain players."
