Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

Deadlock Changes from Four Lanes to Three in New Major Update

Deadlock's latest major update is a game-changer, converting the four-lane map into a streamlined three-lane structure. Valve shared the comprehensive details of this map rework and other gameplay mechanics on Steam on February 26, 2025.

The update introduces a vast array of modifications, including changes to visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss. While Deadlock stands out in the MOBA genre with its third-person perspective, the shift from four to three lanes aims to simplify the gameplay and enhance strategic depth.

Additionally, the update simplifies farming mechanics. Players no longer need to last-hit enemy troopers to summon Soul Orbs, which should ease early laning phases. The patch notes also highlight improvements in the game's netcode and client performance, promising a smoother experience for all players.

Vital Update for Deadlock

This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to re-energize its player base. After reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 players in September 2024, the game experienced a 90% drop in player count, with only around 17,000 players active this past month.

Valve Developer Yoshi addressed the community in January 2025 on Deadlock’s Discord server, explaining changes to the update schedule. Yoshi noted, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Deadlock remains in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. No official release date has been announced yet. For more updates and information, be sure to visit our dedicated Deadlock page.
