Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's PC release is generating excitement, particularly regarding potential mods and DLC. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on these aspects in an interview on the Epic Games blog.

DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision

While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. However, Hamaguchi expressed openness to player demand: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." Substantial player feedback could influence the creation of future DLC.

A Plea to the Modding Community

The game lacks official mod support, but Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He appealed for responsible modding, stating, "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate." This reflects a balanced approach, encouraging creativity while maintaining community standards.

PC Version Enhancements

The PC version boasts significant graphical upgrades, addressing previous criticisms. Improved lighting rendering aims to eliminate the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. Higher-resolution 3D models and textures, exceeding the PS5's capabilities, are included for more powerful systems. However, adapting mini-games for PC proved challenging, requiring unique key configuration settings.

Release Details

FF7 Rebirth launches on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. This highly anticipated PC release promises enhanced visuals and gameplay, building upon the success of the PS5 version released February 9, 2024.
