Rebel Wolves studio has unveiled details about its upcoming vampire RPG, highlighting the central theme of duality in its protagonist. Project director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz describes the character as a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a concept largely unexplored in video games. This duality, he believes, will introduce a layer of surrealism rarely seen in the genre.
Tomaszkiewicz also notes the unique challenge of allowing players to control a character who is, at times, a completely ordinary human without superpowers. This intentional contrast between the character's two states presents a significant design challenge. The familiarity of standard RPG mechanics means that their absence could confuse players accustomed to certain conventions.
The team faces the constant dilemma of balancing innovation with established mechanics. Tomaszkiewicz cites Kingdom Come: Deliverance's controversial schnapps-dependent save system as an example of how even seemingly minor changes can provoke strong reactions from players. This underscores the need for careful consideration when deviating from genre norms.
The gameplay premiere is anticipated for Summer 2025.
