Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously inaccessible due to PSN's limited regional support.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title, boasting dynamic combat and nearly nine years in development, will also release on PS5. Sony's initial mandate of mandatory PSN linking for PC releases last year faced considerable backlash. This requirement effectively blocked sales in regions without PSN access, hindering both player reach and revenue.
However, Lost Soul Aside appears to be deviating from this policy. Following the December 2024 gameplay trailer and the game's Steam page launch, the PSN linking requirement was swiftly removed. This is only the second instance of Sony reversing this policy, the first being Helldivers 2.
This decision is a welcome relief for PC gamers in unsupported regions. It also suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PSN linking for its PC titles. The poor PC performance of games requiring PSN linking, notably God of War Ragnarok's significantly lower Steam player count compared to its predecessor, may have influenced this change. While Sony's reasoning remains undisclosed, maximizing player reach is a likely factor in this decision.
