Here are some crucial early-game tips we wish we'd known:
Avoid Unprovoked Player Attacks
Screenshot by The Escapist Rune Slayer's full-loot PvP initially caused concern, but it's less brutal than expected. Death doesn't mean losing your gear; you simply respawn. However, attacking players earns you a bounty. The higher your bounty, the more loot you drop upon death. Therefore, avoid attacking unless you have a compelling reason or a strong party backing you up.
Craft Bags Immediately
Screenshot by The EscapistInventory and bank space are severely limited. Thankfully, you can craft bags! Two bags can be equipped simultaneously, starting with the Cotton Bag. Find Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (beware of tougher mobs in the south). Each Cotton Bag adds 10 slots—craft them ASAP!
Your Pets Don't Actually Die
Screenshot by The EscapistContrary to popular belief, your pets don't perish permanently. When a pet reaches zero health, it enters a 5-minute cooldown before being resummoned (check the cooldown with the 'T' key). To quickly heal your pet, store and retrieve it at the stable master (you have one free slot).
Accept Every Quest
Screenshot by The EscapistRune Slayer boasts a plethora of quests—mostly simple "kill X" tasks. To streamline things, accept every quest you encounter, including those from the job board. Often, quests can be combined, making progress more efficient.
Craft Everything at Least Once
Screenshot by The EscapistPrioritize crafting necessary items, but use spare materials to experiment. Crafting unlocks new recipes. We unexpectedly unlocked superior Iron Armor after smelting our first Iron Ore. Don't hoard materials; craft away!
Join a Guild
While Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, tougher enemies require teamwork. Guilds are the easiest way to find groups. Use general chat or the official Rune Slayer Discord to find a guild and tackle challenging encounters together.
That's it! Enjoy your Rune Slayer journey. For further assistance, check out the Rune Slayer Trello and Discord server.
