Love retro shoot ‘em ups? You’ll want to explore this new app. Tatsujin, a game publishing studio founded by Toaplan veteran Masahiro Yuge, has released Amusement Arcade Toaplan on Android.
Chances are, you’ve played a game influenced by Toaplan’s iconic work. Established in 1979, this Japanese developer dominated the arcade scene with its legendary scrolling shooters.
Amusement Arcade Toaplan marks 40 years of Toaplan’s legacy with a mobile collection featuring 25 authentic arcade classics, delivering the original experience on Android.
The standout is Truxton (1988), a legendary shoot ‘em up that’s free to play. You also get demo versions of five titles, including Tiger Heli, Wardner, Flying Shark, Snow Bros, and Teki-Paki, with full versions available for purchase.
Other titles include Truxton II, Snow Bros. 2, Guardian, Slap Fight/Alcon, Twin Cobra, Rally Bike, Hellfire, Twin Hawk, Demon’s World, Zero Wing, Fire Shark, Out Zone, Vimana, Ghox, Fixeight, Dogyuun, Grind Stormer, Knuckle Bash, and Batsugun, all available for individual purchase.
Enjoy customizable touchscreen controls or connect a controller or arcade stick via Bluetooth. Watch the Amusement Arcade Toaplan trailer below.
The app lets you design a personalized virtual arcade. Each downloaded game appears as a mini arcade machine, which you can arrange alongside chairs, potted plants, or even beds.
Visual filters recreate the retro CRT aesthetic, with options for difficulty, extra lives, and an invincibility mode for stress-free play. Retro gaming fans can find this collection on the Google Play Store.
