A new teaser for Thunderbolts has ignited a fervent debate among fans regarding the fate of Taskmaster, particularly after observant viewers noticed the character's absence from a key scene.

In the initial trailer released in September 2024, Taskmaster was prominently featured standing between Ghost and U.S. Agent in the Watchtower scene. However, the newly released teaser depicts the same scene without Taskmaster, sparking widespread speculation.

This omission, coupled with the absence of Taskmaster actress Olga Kurylenko from the recent cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday—while other Thunderbolts characters were included—has led many MCU enthusiasts to speculate that Taskmaster may not survive the film.

The question remains: why was Taskmaster included in the original scene but removed from the latest teaser? Fans have floated numerous theories, from Marvel employing a double-bluff strategy to adjusting the narrative in light of Avengers: Doomsday developments.

Furthermore, a closer examination reveals slight positional differences among the characters in both frames, suggesting possible in-scene dynamics. Some fans theorize that Sentry might have 'deleted' Taskmaster in this scene, a power he's shown to wield in other trailer snippets. Could Sentry have already eliminated Taskmaster at this point? Or might Taskmaster have switched sides? The uncertainty leaves fans guessing.

"Marvel pretty much just sealed the fate of this character in the movie," remarked redditor Matapple13. "Yesterday they announced Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman in the Avengers: Doomsday cast, but Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster's actress) was blatantly absent, and now, Marvel posts this..."

On the other hand, some fans remain hopeful. "The amount of people saying she’s dying and Marvel seemingly leaning into that by barely showing her make me think there's a reveal there with her in the movie and that she lives," commented puckallday.

What we do know is that Sentry possesses immense power, as highlighted by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's statement in the new teaser: Sentry is "stronger than all of the Avengers rolled into one." This suggests that Taskmaster could indeed have been killed, deleted, or sent to the void with just a thought from Sentry.

As the MCU continues to evolve, this week has been particularly eventful. We've delved into whether Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement might have inadvertently spoiled Thunderbolts. Moreover, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that more Avengers: Doomsday cast reveals are on the horizon, potentially offering hope for Taskmaster's future.

The wait for answers won't be long. Thunderbolts is scheduled for release in May 2025, followed by the TV show Ironheart in June, and the launch of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027.
