The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has hinted at the possibility of developing "Stardew Valley 2" in the future.
However, don't get too carried away—during his TigerBelly interview, the developer also confessed that expanding the original game is far simpler than building an entirely new one from the ground up.
"All the core systems are already in place—those foundational elements that aren't particularly enjoyable to recreate. When I update Stardew Valley now, it's more about sprinkling in fresh content—like whimsical additions such as green rain," Barone explained.
He later clarified, "Honestly, I might create Stardew Valley 2 at some point," as reported by Nintendo Life.
During the same conversation, Barone shared his desire to avoid being typecast as "the Stardew Valley guy," which motivated his current focus on Haunted Chocolatier. But fans shouldn't anticipate an imminent release—Barone stressed there's "significant work remaining," especially since he aims to surpass Stardew Valley's success.
