Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to appear in a playable format at Australia's National Museum of Screen Culture. Read on for all the latest updates about the upcoming exhibit and what fans can expect from this exciting showcase.
After years of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong fans may finally get a hands-on experience with the game. The highly anticipated sequel will be featured as part of the Game Worlds exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), running from September 18, 2025, through February 8, 2026. This playable version could offer a much more refined glimpse into the game compared to the early E3 2019 demo, which was largely seen as a prototype or proof of concept.
The Game Worlds exhibition will highlight several iconic titles such as World of Warcraft, The Sims, and homegrown talent including Hollow Knight: Silksong. Attendees will have access to exclusive custom builds, original design materials, concept art, and other behind-the-scenes artifacts that showcase the creative process behind these games.
In an interview with IGN, ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about featuring Silksong. They said, “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet—and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds this September.”
Since its 2019 reveal, official updates on Silksong have been sparse, leading fans to speculate endlessly about its development progress and release window. The ACMI exhibit promises to provide some clarity, offering deeper insight into the world and mechanics of Silksong.
The curators also mentioned how the exhibit will explore the intricate design elements of the game. “From the hundreds of sprites animating Hornet’s movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s toughest boss fights—and of course, having the game playable in-gallery—our Silksong displays dive deep into the artistic direction and game design philosophy,” they explained.
While the museum event might hint at an approaching launch window, no official release date has yet been confirmed for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Recently, the game appeared briefly during the Switch 2 Direct, confirming a 2025 release window. Since the ACMI exhibit runs until early 2026, players are hopeful that a release could come as early as September 2025 or during the duration of the exhibit.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by following our dedicated coverage below!
