Housemarque Unveils Saros, a New Roguelite Shooter for PS5

Following the success of 2022's Returnal, Housemarque has announced its next project: Saros. Starring Rahul Kohli, this new single-player title is slated for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.

PlayUnveiled during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros retains the signature Housemarque style. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in eclipse and guarded by formidable entities. The game's emphasis on "coming back stronger" and its fiery, bullet-hell action clearly draws inspiration from Returnal.

Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's action-focused gameplay. While a fresh IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal.

However, Saros introduces key gameplay differences. According to Louden on the PlayStation Blog, a significant departure from Returnal lies in its system of permanent progression and resources. While the game world dynamically shifts after player death, players will accumulate permanent upgrades for their weapons and suits.

Housemarque promises a more extensive gameplay reveal later this year, offering a deeper look into Saros's mechanics and world. For a complete overview of the PlayStation State of Play announcements, check out our comprehensive recap.
