Samsung's latest SSD, the Samsung 990 Evo Plus PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe solid state drive, is currently on sale. You can grab the 2TB model for just $129.99, or if you're looking for more storage, the 4TB model is an even better deal at $249.99. These prices are $40 to $70 less than the Samsung 990 Pro, and most gamers won't notice any difference in performance between the two.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is an outstanding choice for both your gaming PC and PlayStation 5 console. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed recommendation for the PS5, offering impressive sequential speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s read and 6,300 MB/s write. While it's not as fast as the 990 Pro, the 990 Evo Plus is significantly faster than the non-Pro version. The key difference between the 990 Evo Plus and the more expensive 990 Pro is that the Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive. However, this doesn't impact PS5 performance. For gaming PCs, the 990 Evo Plus supports HMB (host memory buffer), which compensates for the lack of DRAM by utilizing a minimal amount of your system's RAM. Gamers won't notice any performance difference between the two drives.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not come with a pre-installed heatsink. However, its new single-sided design is power-efficient and produces less heat than previous SSD models. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, and it should work perfectly in a PS5 without any thermal throttling. That said, if you want added peace of mind, you can opt for a heatsink, though it would add an extra $7 to your cost.
