Death Stranding 2 is introducing hololive VTuber Pekora as a Prepper NPC. Learn more about this surprising cameo and other exciting guest appearances planned for the game.
Death Stranding 2 (DS2) continues to expand its impressive cast with the addition of Hololive VTuber Usada Pekora. Kojima Productions announced via Twitter (X) on May 29 that Pekora will feature in the game as a Prepper—an isolated, non-playable character.
Usada Pekora is a top-tier Japanese VTuber from Hololive Production, a member of the "hololive fantasy" third generation. She is currently the fourth most-subscribed VTuber on the platform, with over 2.7 million followers.
The reveal included a brief clip showing Pekora greeting the player upon leaving a Prepper Shelter, an underground bunker where such characters reside. Her exact role remains a mystery, with the announcement teasing: "What kind of Prepper could she be…? Find out after the game launches!"

This isn't the first interaction between Kojima Productions and the popular VTuber. Pekora visited the studio last year, and Hideo Kojima himself shared a photo with her in August, both posing with a thumbs-up beside the studio's Ludens statue.
Pekora thanked the studio for the experience on social media. While fans were initially curious about the visit, they're now thrilled to see her included in the game. Kojima is a known fan of Pekora's streams, and this collaboration presents a great opportunity to attract Hololive's vast audience to the upcoming title.

DS2 is set to feature even more celebrity appearances, as Hideo Kojima indicated in a recent episode of the KojiPro podcast. He mentioned that while many individuals were scanned for the game, about half couldn't be included due to storage constraints.
According to translations by Genki Gamer, most of these were intended as Preppers, with others planned for more prominent roles. Many also recorded voice lines. No official list has been released yet, leaving fans to discover the full roster upon the game's release.

Celebrity cameos are nothing new for the series. The first Death Stranding included figures like Conan O'Brien as "The Wandering MC," horror manga legend Junji Ito as "The Engineer," and Geoff Keighley as "The Ludens Fan," among others.
With the launch approaching, players can anticipate more news and potential cameo reveals. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach arrives on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. For the latest updates, check out our full coverage below.
