Years of fervent pleas from Bloodborne fans for a remastered edition of the FromSoftware masterpiece have reached a fever pitch, fueled by recent Instagram activity.
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, holds a special place in many gamers' hearts. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on current-gen consoles is widespread. While official confirmation remains elusive, recent posts on FromSoftware's and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have reignited the flames of anticipation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One featured Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others depicted the Hunter exploring Yharnam's core and the eerie Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts might seem like a simple nostalgic gesture, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like Twitter (X) have meticulously analyzed every detail, searching for clues hinting at a long-awaited remaster. The feeling of being teased is palpable, especially given a similar post by PlayStation Italia on August 17th.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne location from a selection of images. The comments section overflowed with pleas for a Yharnam return, ranging from nostalgic reminiscing to humorous suggestions of a PC or modern console release.
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's greatest achievements. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans often cite the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent for Bloodborne's revival. However, this hope is tempered by concerns about the potential wait time. Given Demon's Souls' over-decade-long journey to a remake, fears of a similar fate for Bloodborne are understandable. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, the desire for a remastered version is stronger than ever.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki further fueled the speculation. While avoiding concrete confirmation, he acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware.
"Modern hardware definitely adds value to remakes," Miyazaki stated. "But it's not the only factor. It allows more players to experience the game, and that accessibility is important."
Despite Miyazaki's encouraging words, the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (which FromSoftware fully publishes), Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony.
"I can't speak specifically about Bloodborne," Miyazaki explained in a similar interview with IGN. "FromSoftware doesn't own the IP. It was a great project, but we're not at liberty to discuss it further."
Bloodborne's passionate community continues to eagerly await a remake. Despite its critical success and strong sales, Sony hasn't broadened its availability beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
