The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, and it's expected to be in high demand. To ensure that dedicated Switch players can secure their pre-orders, Nintendo is implementing a structured pre-order system through the My Nintendo Store. If you're interested in pre-ordering the Nintendo Switch 2 and select accessories, you'll need to register your interest using your Nintendo Account.

Once registered, you'll receive an invitation email when it's your turn to pre-order. This invitation will be valid for 72 hours, and it's crucial to meet certain criteria to be eligible. As per the details on the site, "Invitation emails will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025."

Nintendo emphasizes that these invitations are "non-transferable" and will be sent to the email address linked to your Nintendo Account. Additionally, there's a one-per-account limit for the system and each accessory during the invitation period. You can express interest in either the base Nintendo Switch 2 system or the bundle that includes Mario Kart World.

Once you place your order, it will be shipped after purchase, and you'll receive an approximate shipping date at the time of ordering. Nintendo notes that "release-day delivery is not guaranteed due to processing and shipment times." These measures are clearly designed to ensure that those who pre-order are genuine gamers interested in using the Switch 2 themselves, rather than resellers looking to profit from scalping.

The issue of scalping has plagued many high-demand product launches, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Valve effectively managed this with their Steam Deck by implementing a queue system linked to existing Steam accounts. Nintendo's approach with the My Nintendo Store seems to follow a similar strategy to curb scalping and ensure fair distribution to dedicated fans.

While other avenues for purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available, this pre-order system should provide a smoother experience for long-time Switch owners looking to secure their console on launch day.
