Home > News > Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned
The anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 is generating significant buzz within the gaming community, with its pricing being a focal point of discussion. Analysts speaking to IGN have projected a starting price of around $400 for Nintendo's next-generation console, a figure that aligns with a recent Bloomberg report based on insights from Japan-focused analysts. This price represents a notable increase over the original Nintendo Switch, but there's speculation it could climb even higher, possibly reaching up to $499. Despite the higher price tag, expectations for the Switch 2's launch are sky-high, with predictions suggesting it could be the most successful console launch ever, regardless of its cost.
Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based analyst, told Bloomberg, "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price." This optimism is fueled by the expected demand for the console's launch lineup. Toto anticipates a new Mario Kart game, hinted at by Nintendo during the Switch 2's reveal, a new 3D Mario adventure, and the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all slated for release within the first year. Furthermore, third-party support is expected to be robust, with titles like Call of Duty from Activision potentially joining the fray.
Rumors are swirling about a plethora of third-party titles set to grace the Switch 2, including Civilization 7, which its developer Firaxis finds intriguing due to the console's rumored Joy-Con mouse mode. French game and accessory manufacturer Nacon has also confirmed having games ready for the Switch 2, such as Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City. The much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be in the lineup. Last month, EA expressed interest in bringing Madden, FC, and The Sims to the new console.
While Activision has yet to confirm its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has remained silent on the Bloomberg report, the June 2025 release date is gaining traction. Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein shared with Bloomberg that Nintendo aims to have 6-8 million units ready for launch, setting the stage for a potentially record-breaking sales performance compared to its predecessor and even the PlayStation 4 and 5.
Concerns have been raised about the impact of U.S. trade policies on the Switch 2's price, with tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico. However, Bloomberg notes that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, a strategy that one analyst suggests mitigates risk for Nintendo.
While many details about the Switch 2 remain under wraps, Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2, promising more revelations about the console. The Switch 2 was initially teased in January with a trailer that confirmed backward compatibility and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, details on its game lineup and the function of a new mysterious Joy-Con button were left undisclosed, though the Joy-Con mouse theory has gained some traction.
Moreover, a Nintendo patent from last month hinted at the possibility of the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers being attachable upside down, utilizing magnets instead of rails for a more versatile attachment method. This could enable players to customize button placements and other features, potentially leading to innovative gameplay mechanics if implemented in the final product.
