Nintendo Announces Costly Switch 2 Game Upgrade Prices

Nintendo has revealed the upgrade costs for transitioning two additional Switch games from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree — and the prices are steep.

Upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each, but NintendoLife reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild includes enhanced graphics and performance, achievements, and support for the new "Zelda Notes" feature in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on Switch won’t receive these features automatically but can buy an "upgrade pack" for $10 to access them.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s Star-Crossed World introduces new story content. The Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree includes Jamboree TV, a new content suite utilizing Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. It also offers upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online features.

While U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop remain unconfirmed — possibly due to uncertainties surrounding President Trump's tariffs — the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade carries the same price, suggesting a likely $19.99 cost in the U.S.

The $20 upgrade price for both games may reflect the high $80 retail price of Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. The original Switch versions of both games are priced at $59.99, $20 less.

As a reminder, upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Currently, no such offer exists for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrades.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders launched today, April 24, priced at $449.99 — and demand was predictably high. Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the release date is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
