Succession star Kieran Culkin has officially landed the role of young Caesar Flickerman in Lionsgate's upcoming Hunger Games prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, ending months of speculation.
Lionsgate made the announcement official today via X/Twitter, confirming that Culkin will portray the flamboyant Hunger Games host in next year's highly anticipated adaptation. Fans have debated casting possibilities since rumors began circulating earlier this year, with many pleased to see their preferred choice confirmed.
Sunrise on the Reaping marks another prequel installment for devoted Hunger Games enthusiasts. The story unfolds between 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the original Jennifer Lawrence-led Hunngeer Games film series from the 2010s. Culkin faces the challenging task of following Stanley Tucci's memorable portrayal of Caesar Flickerman from the original trilogy.

"Kieran's magnetic screen presence and natural charm perfectly embody Caesar Flickerman, the captivating yet unsettling host of Panem's most brutal tradition," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman in an official statement. "Stanley Tucci set an incredible precedent—now Kieran will redefine the role."
Culkin's recent rise to stardom through Succession's Roman Roy and his BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Oscar-winning performance in A Real Pain has demonstrated his remarkable range. The actor, who first gained attention as a child star in 1990's Home Alone and 1991's Father of the Bride, has recently built his reputation on razor-sharp wit—making him an inspired choice for Panem's sarcastic game show host.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping premieres November 20, 2026, adapting Suzanne Collins' novel with an impressive ensemble cast. Culkin joins Ralph Fiennes returning as President Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, among others.
