Henry Cavill has finally addressed recent reports concerning an injury he sustained during pre-production for the highly anticipated Highlander reboot.
The star of Man of Steel and former Witcher actor updated his fans via his official Instagram account. While the exact details of how Cavill was injured while preparing for the upcoming Highlander film remain unclear, his latest post suggests an issue with his left foot or ankle area.
As Cavill recovers with his dog by his side—and a tidy stack of Warhammer books, of course—the specific circumstances of the injury are still unknown. Rather than explaining what happened, the former Superman star used his post to share a piece of poetry: William Ernest Henley’s "Invictus," which he captioned for his 28.3 million Instagram followers.
Cavill is expected to remain off his feet for some time, meaning updates regarding Highlander will likely be scarce in the near future. Last week, The Hollywood Reporter indicated that the Chad Stahelski-directed project was set to begin filming "in the coming weeks," but that schedule has now shifted, with production anticipated to start in early 2026 instead.
There are still many unanswered questions about how Highlander will adapt the cult-classic story for today’s audiences. However, back in June, it was confirmed that Russell Crowe will reunite with his Man of Steel co-star on the project. The cast also includes Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang. Stahelski has further hinted that additional Highlander installments could be in development.
“I’ll be the first to say it: our storyline involves many of the same characters and elements,” the John Wick director shared on Happy Sad Confused in 2023. “But we’ve also incorporated aspects from all the TV series, and we're laying the groundwork for The Gathering, giving us room to expand the franchise.”
While Cavill takes time to recover, you can explore how his deep dive into Warhammer might be preparing him to shape the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe. You can also take a look at what seems to be the actor’s long-unseen audition tape for the role of James Bond.
