Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 actor Ned Luke has reassured fans that the much-anticipated GTA 6 will be worth the wait, while also making a bold prediction about its sales. Dive in to discover more about what to expect from GTA 6 and its development.
Ned Luke, the voice behind Michael De Santa in GTA 5, confidently predicts that GTA 6 will generate a staggering $1.3 billion on its first day. In a revealing interview with the YouTube channel Fall Damage, Luke expressed his excitement about the upcoming title, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of Rockstar Games' projects. "What I tell people is, be patient. It's going to be worth the wait. From what I've seen, it's going to be amazing," he stated. Reflecting on past successes, he noted that GTA 5 amassed over $800 million within its first 24 hours of release in 2013, confidently predicting that GTA 6 will surpass these figures.
According to DFC Intelligence, a research firm, GTA 6 is projected to sell over 40 million copies and earn $3.2 billion in its debut year, with a hefty $1 billion expected from pre-orders alone.
Luke also shared insights on the potential return of GTA 5 characters in both GTA Online and the forthcoming GTA 6. While his character, Michael, has been absent from GTA Online since its inception, the other protagonists, Trevor and Franklin, have made appearances. Luke hinted at the possibility of Michael featuring in a speculated final DLC for GTA Online or even making a comeback in GTA 6. Meanwhile, Steven Ogg, who portrayed Trevor, discussed his ideal scenario with ScreenRant in January 2025, suggesting a dramatic exit for his character early in GTA 6 as a symbolic "passing the torch" moment.
"Maybe [Michael, Franklin, and Trevor will be] in GTA 6, like [its online mode]. Maybe. Maybe not. You know Rockstar is not going to tell you anything. And if we say anything, you know they will not be very happy," Luke remarked. Despite the enthusiasm from both actors about reprising their roles, no official word has been released on whether these beloved characters will indeed return in GTA 6.
Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar Games, suggested that GTA 6 might currently be in its in-house testing phase. In a now-deleted video interview with YouTuber Kiwi Talkz, as reported by GamesRadar, York emphasized the uniqueness of GTA 6, describing it as unlike any other open-world game due to its unpredictability. "There are a lot of things that can happen that you don't really think about until some random kid in his basement tries it, you know? You really don't," he noted.
York believes that the game is now undergoing in-house testing, with developers still adding final touches and extras. He speculated that the game is at least playable at this stage, with many testers likely having already experienced it.
Rockstar Games unveiled the first trailer for GTA 6 in December 2023, but has remained tight-lipped about further details since. Reports from Take-Two Interactive's Financial Report in 2024 suggested a Fall 2025 release for GTA 6, though no official release date has been confirmed yet.
