Gears of War: E-Day Delayed to 2026

If you tuned into Xbox Games Showcase 2025 expecting Gears of War: E-Day news, you might have come away disappointed. Microsoft's major franchises—Forza, Halo, and the upcoming Fable reboot—were notably absent from today's presentation.

Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed Gears of War: E-Day will arrive in 2026 alongside the next Forza installment, marking Xbox's 25th anniversary celebration.

The prequel to Xbox's flagship Gears of War series was first revealed at last year's Xbox Games Showcase 2024. Set 14 years before the original game, E-Day serves as an origin story for iconic characters Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, with John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro reprising their voice roles.

"Gears of War: E-Day isn't just our next big release—it's a homecoming to the series' core identity and visceral combat," said The Coalition studio head Mike Crump.

Earlier this year, People Can Fly—known for Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment—joined Xbox's The Coalition as co-developer for E-Day.
