Elden Ring Film Adaptation in Works

Live-Action Elden Ring Film Officially Announced

The live-action adaptation of Elden Ring is officially in the works, as recently confirmed by publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment and the American film studio A24.

Under the guidance of celebrated writer and director Alex Garland (known for Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare), the film aims to "capture the epic world and intense action" of the original game for cinematic audiences. It will be produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich of DNA Films, alongside A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R. R. Martin, and Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis. It remains uncertain whether FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki will contribute to the project.

Additional information, including specific plot details and casting choices, has not yet been shared. Fans are eagerly awaiting further announcements, which are expected to arrive in the near future.

Elden Ring Continues to Thrive in 2025

While the Elden Ring live-action film might not debut for some time, the video game series remains highly successful with new releases on the horizon. The original Elden Ring launched in 2022 and quickly established itself as one of the most beloved games ever, selling over 13.4 million copies within its first five weeks. As of April 2025, the official Elden Ring X (formerly Twitter) account announced worldwide sales surpassing 30 million, expressing gratitude to all the Tarnished who embarked on adventures throughout the Lands Between. The title is also recognized as one of the most decorated games in history, having received over 324 Game of the Year awards from various media organizations and ceremonies. Its 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, garnered comparable acclaim.

FromSoftware shows no signs of slowing down with the franchise, as 2025 introduces not one, but two new releases for players. First, the spinoff Elden Ring Nightreign is a cooperative action game set in the realm of Limveld, where players become Nightfarers tasked with preventing the rise of the Nightlord. It will integrate familiar elements from Elden Ring, redesigned specifically for a fresh multiplayer co-op experience. Nightreign is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30.

Second, a comprehensive edition for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, titled Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, is planned for launch later this year. This version will include the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC along with four new armor sets and a customization option for three variations of Torrent the Spectral Steed. Although it won't be a launch title for the highly anticipated console, fans can anticipate playing Elden Ring on the Switch 2 in the coming months.
