Proxi, The Sims Creator's New Game, Has More Details Revealed

Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently shared new details about his upcoming AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative game, initially announced in 2018, is finally moving closer to release after a "not-a-trailer-trailer" debuted last month.

The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's development and its unique connection to personal memories. BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization funding Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising and awareness.

Proxi is described as an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for a more accurate representation. Each added memory, termed a "mem," trains the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world," a 3D environment where memories are visualized as interconnected hexagons.

This "mind world" expands as more mems are added, incorporating Proxies—representations of friends and family—based on their presence in those memories. The timeline is flexible, allowing for the rearrangement and connection of memories to different Proxies. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox.

Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on creating a deeply personal experience: "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He jokingly added, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."

Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
