Hollywood's plans to adapt the original Kane & Lynch video game into a feature film persisted for years after its 2007 debut by Hitman developer IO Interactive, with multiple A-list actors circling the project at different stages.
This week, Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto disclosed on social media that he had developed a concept for the Kane & Lynch film starring David Harbour — best known as Stranger Things' Jim Hopper or as Red Guardian in Thunderbolts*/New Avengers.
"While I never saw a script, several years back when the property still had heat, I crafted a brief treatment envisioning James Badge Dale and David Harbour in the leads," Tjahjanto revealed. "Sadly, it never progressed beyond that stage."

Tjahjanto might find some comfort knowing his treatment — an initial pitch document for studio consideration — became just one of many unproduced concepts for the troubled adaptation.
The project originally attracted Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx, though both departed during extensive script revisions.
Later iterations reportedly considered Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel for the leads, though these versions also failed to materialize.
Following 2010's lukewarm sequel Kane & Lynch: Dog Days, IO Interactive ultimately shifted focus exclusively to their Hitman franchise, leaving the film adaptation permanently stalled.
