Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 right before our eyes.
To celebrate reaching an incredible milestone of 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team posted a short video on social media earlier today, April 25. In the clip, Ada Wong shares a quiet moment with one of gaming's most infamous villains, before cutting to Leon surrounded by infected hordes wearing party hats as they shamble toward the church.
The scene then shifts to a rock track, with Dr Salvador strumming his chainsaw like a guitar — yes, that really happens — as the camera pulls back to show Leon pumping his fist. Behind him, a rustic sign displays the words: "Thank you for playing."

Turn that same sign on its side, however, and the wooden planks form the Roman numeral "IX" — which, of course, represents the number 9.
Although this could be written off as coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem notes that the lower plank is clearly missing earlier in the video, confirming it was added deliberately. Interpret that as you like.
"I see what you did there," remarked one surprised viewer, adding a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has officially confirmed that the next mainline Resident Evil title will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind Resident Evil 7.
"It was a real challenge deciding what to pursue after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi previously explained. "But I’ve found something meaningful — something with real substance. I can’t go into specifics yet, but I hope you look forward to the day I can." While not officially confirmed, it’s widely believed the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
