The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced on Twitter that he received the notice requesting the removal of links to his patch, which he subsequently complied with.
McDonald highlighted the irony, referencing a past meeting with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida where he jokingly revealed his creation of the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Yoshida's reaction was reportedly laughter.
Bloodborne's lack of an official next-gen patch or remaster remains a significant point of contention among fans. While a 60fps mod existed, recent advancements in PS4 emulation, specifically ShadPS4 highlighted by Digital Foundry, now allow for a near-remaster experience on PC at 60fps. This breakthrough might have prompted Sony's more assertive action. IGN has reached out to Sony for comment.
Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his personal theory for Bloodborne's absence from next-gen updates or remasters in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He speculated that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's creator, deeply cherishes Bloodborne and is reluctant to allow others to work on it, despite its popularity and the potential for an update. Yoshida stated this was purely his theory and not based on any confidential information.
Despite its age (almost a decade old), Bloodborne remains a highly requested title. While Miyazaki often deflects questions about the game, citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he did acknowledge in February 2023 that a release on more modern hardware would be beneficial. The game's future, however, remains uncertain.
