Antarah: The Game, a new 3D action-adventure title, brings the legendary Arabian folk hero to life. Antarah, a significant figure in pre-Islamic lore, is depicted here with thrilling detail.

Adapting historical figures into video games is notoriously challenging, as evidenced by past attempts. However, Antarah: The Game shows promise in successfully navigating this difficulty.

But who is Antarah? Often compared (loosely) to King Arthur, Antarah ibn Shaddad al-Absias was a poet and knight famed for his trials to win the hand of his beloved, Abla. His adventures bear a resemblance to Prince of Persia, featuring desert and city exploration and intense combat. While the mobile game's graphics are relatively simple compared to titles like Genshin Impact, the scope is still impressive.

A visually stunning, yet potentially limited experience

Despite its impressive scale (especially for what seems a solo development), the game’s visual variety appears limited. Trailers primarily showcase a vast, orange desert landscape. While animations are appealing, the narrative's unfolding remains unclear – a crucial element for a historical drama.

Whether Antarah: The Game successfully immerses players in pre-Islamic Arabian folklore remains to be seen. Download it on iOS and judge for yourself.
