The Xenomorph from the Alien film franchise is one of the coolest and most nefarious movie monsters ever created, with its acid blood, terrifying mouths-within-mouths, and deadly claws. It virtually single-handedly (and multi-teethily) pioneered the space horror genre, giving an entire generation a new boogeyman to fear. With the release of Alien: Romulus now streaming, you might be inspired to embark on a full rewatch of the Alien franchise, including the Alien/Predator crossover films, which are set on Earth.
Curious about the correct order to watch them? We've got you covered. Below, you'll find comprehensive listings for the Alien movies, both in chronological order and by release date.

The story of the Xenomorphs begins, chronologically, with the first of the two crossover films, AVP. Set in 2004, this film, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, brings to life the "battle of the titans" concept that originated in a 1989 comic. In the movie, humans discover that Predators (aka the "Yautja") have been visiting Earth for millennia. Ancient cults worshipped them and would sacrifice themselves to a Xenomorph Queen's brood—the facehuggers—producing adult Xenomorphs for the Predators to hunt as the "ultimate prey." Unfortunately, things go awry during the Predators' 2004 hunting expedition.

Set in modern times and thus preceding the rest of the Alien franchise, the sequel, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, picks up immediately after AVP. An Alien-Predator hybrid, known as the "Predalien," is now loose in a small Colorado town. A seasoned, veteran Predator arrives to clean up the mess, resulting in a significant amount of carnage. This would be the final crossover film of the Alien franchise. For more information, see our guide to the Predator movies in order.
