The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red unveils the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.

Picking up where Geralt's story seemingly concludes, Ciri takes center stage. The teaser shows her intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, hinting at a darker, more complex narrative than initially perceived.

While a release date remains unannounced, considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year window seems plausible. Given the anticipated timeframe, The Witcher 4 is likely to be a current-generation console exclusive, targeting PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC simultaneously. A Switch port, while possible on a future iteration of the console, seems less likely.

Though gameplay remains under wraps, the trailer offers glimpses of familiar elements: potions, Signs, and combat. A new addition, Ciri's magical chain, adds intrigue.

Geralt's presence is confirmed, though his role remains uncertain. Voice actor Doug Cockle hints at a mentoring capacity for the grizzled Witcher.
