Cattle Country, a soon-to-be-released Steam game, promises a Wild West twist on the popular farming and life sim formula, reminiscent of Stardew Valley. While offering familiar farming mechanics, Cattle Country distinguishes itself with its unique setting and action-packed elements.
Castle Pixel, the independent developer behind Cattle Country, has a history of creating diverse titles, including the 2D platformer Rex Rocket and the fantasy adventure Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince. Cattle Country marks their foray into the farming simulation genre.
Steam's game description bills Cattle Country as a "Cozy Cowboy Adventure Life Sim." Players can expect core farming activities like planting, harvesting, and resource gathering, alongside building a mountain home and fostering relationships with townsfolk, echoing the charm of Stardew Valley. However, the Wild West setting sets it apart.
What Makes Cattle Country Unique?
The game’s distinctive old-western theme shines through in its trailers. These showcase nighttime cattle herding around a campfire, horse-drawn wagon journeys, and even action-oriented scenes like a classic Wild West shootout and a bare-knuckle brawl. Mining, presented in a 2D Terraria-style format, adds another layer.
While featuring familiar farming elements such as scarecrow placement and tree-chopping, Cattle Country also incorporates unique festival events, including a Santa Claus-themed Christmas feast and a traditional square dance.
Although a release date remains unannounced, Cattle Country is currently available for wishlisting on Steam.
