The Voodoo Doll offers a relatively favorable risk-reward ratio among Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia. While game updates have adjusted its effectiveness, it remains a valuable asset.

Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. This is achieved by sequentially inserting pins into the doll. It's particularly useful for evasive or quiet ghosts, prompting actions like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprint appearances.

Ten pins can be inserted, each decreasing the user's sanity by 5%. Inserting all pins depletes 50% sanity, significantly increasing the risk of ghost hunts.

The most critical risk is the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; hitting the heart pin reduces sanity by 10% and instantly triggers a Cursed Hunt. The ghost will then initiate a prolonged hunt (20 seconds longer than usual) near your location.

Despite the inherent risks, the potential for evidence gathering makes the Voodoo Doll worthwhile, especially with proper preparation.

Cursed Possessions ("Cursed Objects") are unique items randomly appearing on any Phasmophobia map, although their spawn rate varies with difficulty and Challenge Mode.

Unlike standard equipment, which safely assists in ghost identification and evidence gathering, Cursed Objects offer manipulative shortcuts at considerable risk to your character.

The risk associated with each Cursed Object differs, leaving the decision of usage to the player(s). No penalty exists for not using them. Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in Custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
