*Marvel Snap* enthusiasts have long noted the game's limited selection of animal companions, featuring only a few like Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey. Now, with the introduction of the Brave New World season, Falcon's loyal pet, Redwing, joins the fray, bringing a fresh feathered friend into the mix.
Redwing enters the battlefield as a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: "The first time this moves, add a card from your hand to the old location." However, there are a few key points to consider. Redwing's ability triggers only once, which limits its potential even when paired with cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or strategies that involve bouncing it back to your hand. Moreover, targeting a specific card with Redwing can be challenging, especially in move decks filled with small cards like Iron Fist, which you might not want to trigger with Redwing. Scream decks also typically focus on manipulating your opponent's cards rather than your own.
Despite these challenges, Redwing can be maneuvered using affordable cards like Madame Web or Cloak, which is beneficial for players with lower Collection Levels. It also has the potential to surprise opponents by enabling early plays like Galactus or pulling high-value cards like The Infinaut into play.
Following the dominance of Ares and Surtur in the last season, a new Scream-based deck has emerged, incorporating Redwing alongside powerhouses like Aero and Heimdall to disrupt opponents. Here's the deck list:
This deck is quite costly, featuring several Series 5 cards. If Hydra Bob is unavailable, you might opt for Rocket Raccoon or Iceman. The strategy revolves around playing Surtur on turn 3 and following up with high-powered cards to boost Surtur's power, while using Scream to steal power. The deck includes 'push' cards like Polaris, Aero, and Magneto, and Redwing can be synergized with Heimdall to enhance Surtur and pull a powerful card from your hand.
Another potential home for Redwing is in a deck featuring Madame Web, especially since the nerf to Dagger has impacted move decks:
This deck includes two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. While Madame Web isn't essential, removing her would also necessitate dropping Redwing for another Ongoing card like Mobius M. Mobius. The deck's primary goal is to deploy Doom 2099 early to spread power across all locations, with Madame Web aiding in positioning Doom 2099's bots and moving Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing's role is to activate its ability by moving to Madame Web, pulling a card from your hand the next turn. On turn 6, you aim to play either Doctor Doom or Spectrum to either spread or spike power, aiming for victory.
Currently, Redwing does not justify spending your Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector's Tokens. Its limited impact and the underwhelming nature of the move archetype make it a less desirable choice. It's advisable to save your resources for more impactful cards later in the month or in future updates, unless Redwing receives a significant power boost from Second Dinner.
