Sony has announced movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit game, Helldivers 2. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head, Asad Qizilbash: “We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve commenced development on a film based on the incredibly popular Helldivers 2.” While specifics are still under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat on the silver screen.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Star Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title ever, with 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged even further following the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

Adding to the excitement, a movie based on Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted film adaptation.

Asad Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: “We’re in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment.”
