Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, has launched its free-to-play open beta on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck. This launch coincides with a major patch from Titan Forge Games, introducing new gods, game modes, and more.
Revealed a year ago and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts improved visuals and refined combat mechanics compared to its predecessor. A revamped item shop offers greater item variety regardless of god choice. Gameplay retains the core Smite experience: players choose gods from diverse cultures to engage in 5v5 battles and siege the enemy team. Following a successful closed alpha, the game is now open to all players.
Starting January 14th, players can download Smite 2's open beta for free. This update features Aladdin, a brand-new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Utilizing his unique abilities, Aladdin can traverse walls and even revive after death using his companion's three wishes. His ultimate ability, true to his legendary origins, allows him to trap enemies in a 1v1 showdown.
The other gods joining the Smite 2 roster are Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon). In addition to new gods, the popular Joust mode returns, offering 3v3 battles on a smaller map. The Conquest and Assault game modes are also included in the open beta.
Titan Forge Games' creative director has stated that Smite 2 is superior to its predecessor in many aspects. The team thanked players for their feedback during the closed alpha and promised ambitious new content for 2025.
While available on major platforms, Smite 2 is currently not available on Nintendo Switch due to performance concerns. However, Titan Forge Games remains open to bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch 2. Smite fans can now download and experience the open beta on their preferred platform.
