MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

If Season 5 of MultiVersus doesn't perform well, it might mark the end of the game. AusilMV, a well-known insider for game leaks, has shared a concerning rumor. According to him, a trusted source indicated that Season 5 is a critical attempt to revive the game's fortunes. While this is still just a rumor, the situation appears dire.

MultiVersus launched to great acclaim in 2022, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base plummeted by 99% shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to close the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The upcoming fifth season, set to start in early February, could be the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. Essentially, this relaunch of MultiVersus aims to breathe new life into the game, though the developers have opted to refer to the original 2022 release as a "beta." The decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many players, especially those who purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling frustrated and disappointed.
