K-Pop Demon Hunters is officially the most-watched film in Netflix history.
This update comes from Netflix's official data, which reports that the movie attracted 25.4 million new views between August 18 and 24, bringing its cumulative total to 236 million views since its June premiere on the platform.
More remarkably, the film's audience figures have remained nearly unchanged for three weeks straight—an exceptional achievement, even for blockbuster hits. According to Deadline, the numbers are expected to rise further in the coming week, boosted by K-Pop Demon Hunters: The Sing-Along Event, whose viewership is counted alongside the original film despite being a separate title.
Back in July, K-Pop Demon Hunters already secured its place as the most-watched animated film ever on Netflix.
The movie surpassed Red Notice, which had 230.9 million views, pushing it to second place. Other top titles include Carry-On, Don't Look Up, and The Adam Project. In last week's rankings, Night Always Comes followed with 12.3 million views, ahead of Welcome to Sudden Death, My Oxford Year, and Home.
For those new to the phenomenon, K-Pop Demon Hunters is a Sony Pictures Animation production that follows Korean pop group Huntrix—a trio who secretly fight demons by night, aiming to stop an evil demon king from destroying humanity. In our 8/10 review, we praised it as a "spectacular animated action musical" and a "terrific directorial debut for animator Maggie Kang."
Netflix aims to build on this success with plans for a live-action adaptation, a stage musical, sequels, and more, already referring to the franchise as its version of Frozen. A sing-along edition of the film was released earlier this week, following special theatrical screenings held last weekend in select venues.
