The lead developers of the upcoming life simulation game inZOI recently tackled some fan queries, and the topic of sexual intercourse within the game was approached with notable ambiguity. When probed about the inclusion of such content, the assistant director provided a response that was so vague (and conspicuously avoided using the word "sex") that it left players more confused than enlightened.
Essentially, the gist of the answer was that while male and female ZOIs might retreat to a bed together with the clear intention of procreation, the visual representation of this act is left largely to the player's imagination. The assistant director hinted that:
Perhaps that’s exactly what’s happening, but not at the level everyone expected.
This leaves it uncertain whether inZOI will adopt a censorship approach akin to The Sims series or if it will introduce a novel method altogether.
Additionally, the developers shed light on another intriguing aspect of the game: why ZOIs shower in towels rather than using pixelated censorship. This decision was made for two primary reasons. Firstly, pixelation tends to suit games with more cartoonish aesthetics better, while in a game with realistic graphics like inZOI, such blurring could come across as overly sexualized. Secondly, there was a technical issue: when a naked ZOI with pixelated censorship approached a mirror, the censorship did not appear in the reflection, creating an unintended visual glitch.
In fact, much of the ambiguity surrounding these elements can be clarified by looking at the game's ratings from regulatory bodies. inZOI has been rated ESRB - T (for teens) and is expected to receive a PEGI 12 rating. These ratings align with those given to The Sims 4, providing a clearer picture of what players can anticipate in terms of content and censorship.
