Warner Bros.' shelved film Coyote vs. Acme might finally get a release after all, Deadline reports. According to the outlet, Los Angeles-based independent film company Ketchup Entertainment is now in advanced talks to acquire the completed movie, which was previously believed to be canceled entirely.
The report notes the deal is not yet finalized, but if successful, Coyote vs. Acme would receive a theatrical release in 2026.
Announced in 2022 and based on a 1990 Ian Frazier article from The New Yorker, Coyote vs. Acme is co-written by James Gunn and stars Will Forte and John Cena. Initially slated for a mid-2023 launch on Max, the film was shelved despite having finished production. A persistent campaign to save the film has continued since then.
Ketchup Entertainment recently saved Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate, pulling the animated feature from the brink of cancellation and securing it a U.S. theatrical run. It is the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie released in theaters, described by IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's previous releases include Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. The company also co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
