Treyarch is celebrating 115 Day with a flurry of exciting announcements for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, including the unveiling of a brand-new map: The Tomb. This annual January 15th celebration is a major event for Call of Duty fans, and this year's festivities include a comprehensive blog post detailing all the zombie-themed surprises in store. The star of the show is The Tomb, a new desert-themed Zombies map launching with Season 2 on January 28th. This marks another thrilling addition to the Zombies universe, hot on the heels of Season 1's Citadelle des Morts, and arrives in less than two weeks!
Treyarch's story summary reveals that after the harrowing events at Citadelle des Morts, Weaver, Grey, Carver, and Maya follow Gabriel Krafft's final instructions to a nearby excavation site to secure the Sentinel Artifact. This ancient site, built upon the remains of burial grounds dating back to 2500 B.C.E., remained undisturbed for centuries until the early 1900s. What secrets lie beneath? The team hints at a connection to a British archaeologist, Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe, but much remains shrouded in mystery.
Gameplay-wise, The Tomb promises an experience reminiscent of Liberty Falls—the bright, compact map from Black Ops 6's October launch. Expect tighter play spaces designed for high replayability and plenty of Easter eggs to discover. Treyarch also teases a reimagined Wonder Weapon, drawing inspiration from past titles, and the return of a beloved iconic SMG, keeping specifics under wraps for now.
Season 2 also brings a host of quality-of-life improvements, including several highly requested features. Players can now track up to 10 Calling Card challenges and 10 Camo challenges across both Zombies and Multiplayer. A co-op pause option is added for Zombies, allowing the party leader to pause the action. Separate HUD presets for Zombies and Multiplayer will be implemented, and players will be able to rejoin Zombies matches with their loadouts if disconnected.
To celebrate 115 Day, Black Ops 6 players can enjoy double GobbleGum earn rates and double XP for players, weapons, and the Battle Pass until 10 AM PT on January 21st. Treyarch also shared impressive statistics for the story-driven Directed Mode, revealing that players have logged over 480 million hours in Black Ops 6 Zombies. The team explains that Directed Mode aimed to grow the Zombies community by guiding new players through Main Quests, increasing the average Main Quest completion rate from 3.38% on November 14th to 8.23% today.
Fans will be eager to hear the voices of the Zombies characters in The Tomb's launch. Last month, Activision acknowledged that some beloved Zombies characters were recast due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
