Conquering the fearsome Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds can be daunting, especially with its fiery breath and penchant for stealing your hard-earned meat. But fear not, hunter! This guide will equip you with the knowledge to not only defeat, but also capture this fiery fowl.
The Quematrice, a colossal chicken-like beast reminiscent of a Cockatrice, primarily attacks with fire. While it doesn't petrify, its fiery breath is a serious threat. Most weapons are effective against this mid-sized monster, but its area-of-effect attacks might favor ranged weapons for less experienced hunters.
Weakness: Water
Resistances: None
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
While the Quematrice's tail strikes and sweeps can inflict damage, its most powerful attack is the tail slam. This involves a dramatic upward swing followed by a powerful downward strike. Sidestepping or blocking effectively negates this attack.
The most dangerous attacks are its fire-based assaults. These not only deal direct damage but also inflict the burning status effect, steadily draining your health and potentially igniting the ground. These attacks lack obvious tells, but generally involve the Quematrice rearing its head and tail before unleashing a fiery blast either in front of it or in a sweeping arc. A charging attack can also culminate in a fiery turn and blast. For ranged hunters, retreating is the safest option during this attack.
To capture the Quematrice, you'll need the right tools: at least one Shock Trap, one Pitfall Trap, and two Tranquilizer Bombs (a backup trap is highly recommended). Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (indicated by limping or a fading skull icon on the minimap), strategically place a trap in a new area it has fled to. Lure the Quematrice into the trap, toss two Tranquilizer Bombs, and the capture is complete!
