Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide

Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.

Upgrade Locations:

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above), located at Party Camps. These camps are established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the world. Interact with a Waystone to set up camp; the location will then appear on your map as a tent icon, enabling fast travel.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels:

Gear power is determined primarily by Quality, indicated by a numerical value, color rarity, and descriptive adjective. These levels directly correlate to enemy strength within Avowed's Living Lands. Using lower-quality gear against stronger enemies significantly reduces effectiveness. Conversely, matching or exceeding enemy quality provides combat advantages. Here's the Quality breakdown:

• Common – Green, Level I
• Fine – Blue, Level II
• Exceptional – Purple, Level III
• Superb – Red, Level IV
• Legendary – Gold, Level V

Each Quality level allows for three additional upgrades (+0 to +3), enhancing stats before progressing to the next Quality. All + levels must be maxed before upgrading Quality.

Prioritizing Upgrades:

Avowed features standard and Unique weapons and armor. Standard gear is readily available, while Unique items are typically quest rewards or boss drops. Unique gear offers superior bonuses and can reach Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear (which maxes at Superb).

Strategic Upgrade Approach:

Focus your upgrade resources on Unique weapons and armor. Use standard gear temporarily, selling or dismantling it for resources to enhance your Unique equipment.
