The excitement surrounding The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 through the GameCube library has sparked discussions about potential future ports. According to Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of product development, the availability of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not rule out the possibility of a remaster or remake. This statement was made during an interview with Kinda Funny's Tim Gettys.

Despite their popularity, both The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess from the Zelda franchise have yet to be ported to the Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2. This absence has caused concern among fans, especially since The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, previously ported to the Wii U in 2013, will soon be accessible via Nintendo's premium subscription service upon the Nintendo Switch 2 release on June 5.

Bihldorff reassured fans that the inclusion of The Wind Waker in the Nintendo Switch Online library does not preclude a future port of the Wii U version to the Switch 2. He emphasized that all options remain open, noting that there are precedents of games available on Nintendo Switch Online being released in different formats, such as remakes or ports. This suggests that a full remaster is still a possibility, as Nintendo's stance is to "never say never."

The announcement of GameCube titles joining the Nintendo Switch Online premium library was made during last week's Nintendo Direct presentation. This major update will allow subscribers to enjoy a variety of classic 2000s titles, including F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur 2, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker at launch this summer. The library is set to expand further, with titles like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness teased for future inclusion.

Recent news also highlighted delays in the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date in the United States and Canada due to import tariffs affecting financial markets. For more updates, you can explore everything announced at the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct.
