The GameCube version of Wind Waker coming to Switch 2 doesn't necessarily exclude a potential Wind Waker HD port. Continue reading to understand Nintendo's perspective on this matter and how Wind Waker HD enhanced the original experience.

Nintendo confirmed during its April 2 Switch 2 Direct that Wind Waker's GameCube edition will be available on the upcoming console. This news sparked debate among fans regarding whether Wind Waker HD might also see release on the new system.
Nintendo of America's Senior VP of Product Development Nate Bihldorff addressed these concerns during a recent interview. On the April 9 episode of Kinda Funny Games Daily, host Tim Gettys shared insights from conversations with Bihldorff at a New York press event:
"I specifically asked whether Wind Waker's inclusion in NSO would prevent a potential Switch 2 port of the Wii U version," Gettys recalled. "He immediately responded that all possibilities remain open. Of course, nothing definitive has been announced in either direction."

The GameCube version debuted in Japan (2002) and Western markets (2003). Wind Waker HD arrived on Wii U in 2013 featuring significant enhancements including HD graphics (up from 480p), improved lighting, motion controls for specific weapons, optimized sailing mechanics, and various gameplay refinements. Since Switch 2 appears to be the exclusive platform for GameCube titles, Wind Waker HD might represent the only option for original Switch owners to experience this Zelda classic.
Meanwhile, Nintendo is rebranding its Switch Online classics collection as Nintendo Classics. The company announced: "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will gain access to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and SOULCALIBUR II on Switch 2, with additional titles planned for future release." Selected games will offer display options including retro filters and widescreen presentation.
